BANGALORE: With a pass percentage of 82.29%, girls continued to leave behind their counterparts at the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) results declared on Monday.
"They have recorded a difference of 10% in the pass percentage compared to boys, which is a good sign," said G Kumar Naik, principal secretary, primary and secondary education, who announced the results.
Students from rural areas too proved their mettle yet again. "There is a marginal increase in the scores of both rural and urban students, but the improvement is more among students from rural areas. The fact that students in these areas took the initiative to study hard is worth appreciating and they will receive incentives to help them with their higher studies," he said.

City schools have put up a good show this year with as many as 309 schools (including Bangalore Rural, Bangalore North and Bangalore South education districts) scoring 100% result. In total, 1,984 schools have recorded 100% results this year across Karnataka, compared to 1,878 schools last year.
Students with physical disabilities have also fared better in comparison to last year. While last year's pass percentage was 80.21%, there is a slight increase this year with 80.97%.

This year, 853 candidates in the age group if 40 to 58 years appeared for the SSLC exam as repeaters and private candidates. Out of them, 85 have cleared the examination, recording a pass percentage of 9.96%. "Their enthusiasm to study further must be appreciated. Others must also realize that there is a provision to enroll for SSLC and complete their studies. They should make the most out of it," Kumar Naik said, while announcing the result.

Was gunning for top 10, says state topper

He is 16. His favourite book is Ramayana and his father runs a fast food canteen in the city. These are some trivia about Sudhindra M S. But after the SSLC results were declared on Monday, there's a significant addition to the list. Sudhindra is the state topper with a neat 622 on 625.
A student of Vijaya High School in Jayanagar, Sudhindra has managed to score centum in as many as four subjects - Maths, being one of them. "I enjoy Mathematics. It is my favourite subject as it is easy and interesting," he says.
Ask him about his results and a visibly shy Sudhindra says, "I knew I will be among the top 10 scorers in the state, but I never expected rank one." Incidentally, Sudhindra wants to study Commerce next.
"I enjoy reading books and currently I am reading Ramayana. I love epic books as they also provide good values for our lives," the topper adds.
A proud father, M Suryanarayan Somayaji, who runs a canteen in front of Kamla Nehru School in SLV South End, says: "He was always a dedicated student and scored well in class VIII and IX. Although I knew he will score well, we never expected him to be the state topper. I am very happy and proud of my son."
