Gurgaon police cancel licence of pub caught serving liquor to minor, Haryana Police, pubs in guragon, liquor licence, latest news.

gurgaon pub 5pmNew Delhi: The police have cancelled the licence of a pub in Gurgaon's DT Mall following a raid in which they found that alcohol was being served to over a 100 school children. Over 115 people aged between 15 and 20 were caught consuming alcohol in the pub during a police raid despite the fact that the legal age for drinking is 25.

The police also seized hookahs from the place. The owner of the pub has been fined under the Excise Act and has been taken into police custody.

The police said they received a tip on the presence of minors in the pub and subsequently carried the raid. The students have been sent for counselling. "By serving alcohol to school children, the pub was trying to destroy their future. We have fined them under the Excise Act and we will also try to cancel their licence," said Gurgaon police officer Subhash Kaushik.

ACP Bhupendra Singh said the students were connected via social networking websites. He said that parents of the minors were called to the spot after the raids and counselled.

The parents, meanwhile, are worried about the event and the repercussions on young minds. "I have a teenage daughter and a 15-yr-old son. He tells me these things. In fact he tells me some children smoke in the bus," said a worried parent.

Another parent reasoned out that children are getting carried by the cultural shift in the society. "In the name of multi-culturalism, they say these things are novel but it is not," added a concerned parent.

The big questions:

Was the pub not aware the students were underaged when they served them liquor?

Are pubs in NCR regularly serving liqour to teenagers?

Should parents show more responsibility for their teenaged children?

Should drinking age in Delhi and NCR be brought down?
